Airwheel X3 Review - Electric Self-Balanced Unicycle

While an electric unicycle is no longer new thing in the world of modern environment-friendly transportation, the Airwheel X3 brings back basic offerings of simple straightforward vehicle designed for the vast majority of people rather than the already experienced riders. Those who have been using electric unicycles for a while have mastered the art to maintain good balance and perform acrobatic attention-grabbing performance. It is indeed tempting to use the more advanced unicycle with bigger motor, faster speed, or wider wheels, but the more casual users can certainly appreciate the simplicity and user-friendliness of the Airwheel X3 Electric Self-Balanced Unicycle.

Easy Control

The most important thing about unicycle is the way it helps rider to maintain balance. Of course, modern unicycle is equipped with gyroscope to accomplish balance, yet the X3 Electric Self-Balanced Unicycle by Airwheel also adopts aerospace attitude control theory to improve ease of use. While the unicycle does not have handlebars or throttle pedals, rider can accelerate, decelerate, brake, and basically drive the self-balanced vehicle by leaning forward and backward. Slightly tilting sideways help rider to quickly restore balance as well. The pedals are positioned well above the ground, making the unicycle agile enough for sharp cornering.

One-wheeled vehicle is indeed unique and minimalist, but it does not mean that Airwheel X3 sacrifices safety in favor of design. As a matter of fact, Airwheel X3 is designed to be a safe unicycle even for beginners with the addition of speed alarm and automatic pedal rise movement. As a rider reaches the top speed, the pedals rise to help rider control and feel weight distribution. Such feature can be annoying for the experienced, but the X3 is once again intended for first-timers.

In addition to the top speed alarm system, Airwheel X3 has four LEDs to represent battery level. If all four LEDs are on, the battery is fully charged. Three LEDs mean 75% battery power, two LEDs indicate 50% of power, and an LED represents 25% of remaining battery life. In case it runs out of battery power, the unicycle slows down gradually until you can safely step off, so there is no sudden stop.

Airw3heel X3 is mounted with a 132Wh battery that can be fully recharged in about 80 minutes to power a 350 watts motor; a full battery can take you for a ride to cover 15km of distance. Top speed reaches 16 km per house and it can support a rider weighing up to 120 kg. The package includes:

  • Airwheel X3 Electric Self-Balanced Unicycle
  • A set of auxiliary wheels
  • Safety belt
  • Battery charger
  • Extended nozzle
  • Instruction manual

Airwheel X3 is IP56 certified, meaning you can cruise along even during a rainy day without ruining the motor and electric components inside the unit. In the event you are out of balance and the unicycle falls over, the power will automatically disengage.
